WELCOME
Just Imagine...
Imagine a world where everyone had a voice, where everyone could speak for themselves and not rely on someone for their every single need.
I am a registered nurse that is passionate about advocating for persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and Autism. Welcome to my professional eportfolio. Enjoy and explore a little of who I am, where I come from, and what I stand for.

Individuals with IDD and Autism is a
particularly vulnerable population.

Both children and adults are predisposed to a myriad of health conditions and comorbidities that vary in complexity requiring care and interventions that are specifically adapted to their needs. Individuals with IDD are often unable to monitor and report changes in their health conditions thus lending to the increased need for education around guidelines for healthcare providers within their scope of practice.

They typically face greater barriers to accessing appropriate healthcare
and services.

Some of these challenges are inherent to the physical and/or cognitive limitations borne by the patient, but these challenges are exacerbated by the relative paucity of clinicians who are comfortable with and available to take on the care of patients with IDD. With the current trend of deinstitutionalizing patients and consequent move to the community highlights the even greater need for more inclusive community of healthcare providers willing and able to support and care for individuals with IDD.
I want to be the voice for those individuals that cannot speak
for themselves.

I currently work with St. Amant Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba, which specializes in caring for individuals with IDD and Autism. I assist in transitioning adults and pediatrics with IDD and Autism from an institutionalized setting to community living. I also work with the Jordan’s Principle Program through St. Amant which provides services for pediatric patients within their home community.

If a child can't learn the way we teach maybe we should teach the way they learn.
